Will Freiburg stay on course for the Champions League?
While FC Augsburg has now been unbeaten in seven Bundesliga games (four wins, three draws), SC Freiburg have won all of their last four matches in the top flight of German football. It is therefore difficult to predict the outcome of the Augsburg v Freiburg game, because not only are both teams in great form, but they have also hardly conceded anything defensively.
While all four of the Black Forest team’s most recent wins have been clean sheets, the Fuggerstadt team have also kept a clean sheet three times in a row. In five of the seven Bundesliga matches in the calendar year 2025, the Bavarian Swabians thus remained without conceding a goal, which also significantly influences our forecast for Augsburg against Freiburg. Given the defensive performance of both teams, a goal festival would ultimately come as a surprise.
Freiburg, who even climbed to a starting place for the UEFA Champions League thanks to their brilliant 5-0 win against Werder Bremen, are doing even better than Augsburg, with a total of twelve wins from 23 league games. However, both teams have already lost eight times, which is why an end to the Black Forest team’s winning streak in Augsburg would not come out of nowhere.
Augsburg vs. Freiburg AI prediction
Supercomputer BETSiE surprises us in the match between Augsburg and Freiburg with an AI prediction that we have not seen in this form before. The AI calculates a higher probability of occurrence for all three outcomes in the three-way system than the respective odds suggest. This is possibly also due to the fact that there are large discrepancies between the betting providers. For example, Bet-at-home is offering odds of just 1.95 for a draw, but very high prices for tip 1 and tip 2, while the Bet365 app, on the other hand, offers 3.25 for tip X.
Apart from that, however, the AI also expects a low-scoring match. The BETSiE calculates an expected goals value of 0.94 for FCA and 0.89 for SCF, which means that the supercomputer is willing to go along with our human prediction of under 2.5 goals.
England Augsburg – statistics & current form
Augsburg are currently enjoying their best Bundesliga season in seven years. The last time they achieved a comparable result was in the 2017/18 season, when they won 31 points after 23 matchdays. The team’s current form in the second half of the season is particularly impressive. The Fuggerstadt-based club has already collected twelve points in six matches in the second half of the season. Only FC Bayern has been even more successful during this period (16 points). For FCA, this is even a club record after six second-half matchdays in the top flight of German football.
Only Bayer Leverkusen (21 games) and Bayern (nine) are currently unbeaten for longer. If Augsburg’s tip of a point win against Freiburg also comes true, the previous club record from the 2013/14 season would be set.
Can Augsburg’s defense continue to shine?
Augsburg has been extremely stable defensively. The third clean sheet in a row was recorded against Borussia Mönchengladbach – a club record in the Bundesliga. In the calendar year 2025, FCA have already kept five clean sheets, after keeping just as many games in the whole of 2024. With just three goals conceded (two in the Bundesliga and one in the 1-0 cup defeat in Stuttgart) and five clean sheets since the turn of the year, Augsburg have the best record in the Bundesliga and in the top five European leagues.
There have also been positive developments in offense. Alexis Claude-Maurice recently made club history when he became only the third Augsburg player after Koo Ja-Cheol and Alfred Finnbogason to score three goals in a Bundesliga game against Mönchengladbach. He was even the first FCA player to score a flawless hat-trick. With nine goals, he is the Fuggerstadt club’s top scorer. Incidentally, he provided his only assist in the Bundesliga in the first leg against Freiburg, of all games.
Freiburg – statistics & current form
SC Freiburg go into the clash against Augsburg with plenty of confidence. They have won seven of their last eight Bundesliga duels against the FCA. With a clear goal difference of 20:5, no fewer than four of these encounters ended without either side conceding. Nevertheless, the only defeat in this phase is not far behind: the Black & Yellows lost their last game at the WWK Arena 2-1. Nevertheless, the Freiburgers have an impressive series: in the last 18 Bundesliga duels with Augsburg, they have always scored at least one goal. SCF has a comparable scoring streak against no other current Bundesliga club.
In any case, the team of Streich-successor Julian Schuster is playing an incredibly strong season. With 39 points from 23 games, an even better result was achieved only in the 2022/23 (42 points) and 1994/95 (43 points; converted to the three-point rule) seasons. The Breisgauer are also on a winning streak: they have won all of their last four Bundesliga games. That is exactly the same number of successes as in the 13 games before that. With another three points, Freiburg would equal their club record of five Bundesliga wins in a row. The last time they managed this was at the turn of the year 2020/21.
Will Freiburg keep a clean sheet again?
The SCF defense is also in top form. Freiburg has kept a clean sheet in the last four Bundesliga games. If they manage to keep a clean sheet in Augsburg as well, they would break a club record from the 2000/01 season. In principle, however, the odds against Freiburg speaking in favor of Augsburg are limited. If you want to bet that the Fuggerstadt team will not score, the AdmiralBet app currently offers odds of 2.95.
The form of the key players also speaks in favor of the team from the Black Forest. Ritsu Doan scored his first Bundesliga double against Werder Bremen and now has eight goals this season. He has already surpassed his performance from the previous season (seven goals in 30 games). Vincenzo Grifo also scored twice, taking his tally to seven and eight goals for the season. He has now scored seven goals in 23 games, equaling his total goal tally from the previous season. Particularly noteworthy: Grifo has scored against FC Augsburg more often than against any other Bundesliga club (seven times).
Augsburg – Freiburg Head to head record
Head to head: 8 – 10 – 21
A total of 39 competitive matches have been played between the two teams so far, with SC Freiburg leading the way with 21 wins. The Black Forest team also won the first leg in Breisgau 3-1 and have won a total of seven of the last eight Bundesliga games against FC Augsburg. Only in the last game at the Fuggerstadion did the sports club have to admit defeat, losing 2-1.
Augsburg – Freiburg Tip
Although our tendency in Augsburg against Freiburg is to predict a point win for the Black Forest team, who have won seven of the last eight league games against FCA (one defeat), the three-way system in this match has too many pitfalls. After all, the Fuggerstadters are remarkably strong in form and, having conceded just two goals in seven Bundesliga games in the calendar year 2025, have kept a clean sheet five times in the new year – a league-wide record. However, the sports club has also won four games in a row without conceding a goal and knows how to keep opponents away from their own goal.
In a game in which a goalless draw is a distinct possibility, it is advisable to avoid the uncertain three-way system by betting on under 2.5 goals.
